BBQ Roasted Chickpeas

Have you ever had roasted chickpeas?  OMG they are a delicious and addicting snack!  My Maple Cinnamon Roasted Chickpeas is one of the most pinned recipes on the blog, so when my husband made his Homemade BBQ Sauce the other day, I new I had to try it with the chickpeas!

These BBQ roasted chickpeas are so easy to make, and your kids will love it too!  Mine did.  They are naturally gluten free and also a safe snack for those with nut allergies.

Recipe Notes

I check and shake them often to avoid them burning which can easily happen. If you feel the need, you can brush more BBQ sauce on right before removing from the oven. I make mine in very small batches so they don’t last long. They tend to lose their crunchiness once stored in a container. My kids will eat them soggy to though. They don’t seem to mind!

    1. I make them in small batches so there usually is no leftovers. I would suggest letting them cool down completely before storing them in a container so the steam does not soften them.
  1. Okay...I'm confused...are you using dried chickpeas (uncooked) or canned chickpeas that dry in the oven process???
    1. I used canned which equals about 2 cups. If you are using dried, you would need to soak them overnight and boil them in the morning until soft. I normally use dried beans, but chickpeas take forever to get soft so I usually get those canned. Eden makes and organic BPA free can so I use theirs.
    1. I actually used canned for this recipe. Eden Foods makes BPA free canned chickpeas. But yes, if you use dried chickpeas, you will need to soak them overnight and then boil them.
    1. That's good! What did you do to keep them from getting soggy? I find that storing them in an airtight container with a bit of rice scattered on the bottom helps.
  2. I can't see the homemade BBQ sauce recipe. When I click on the hyperlink, it goes to a different page describing the recipe, but no recipe.
    1. Sorry about that. Here is the link again. I will fix t in this post as well. https://mywholefoodlife.com/2013/03/08/homemade-bbq-sauce/
  3. I soak my chickpeas overnight and then spread them out to dry for hours before roasting them. No need to boil first. They stay crunchy for days and days. I cook them at 400 degrees for about 40 minutes or whenever they look brown. I put oil and spices on them after they are cooked. Buying in the can is much easier however the natural grocers brand sells it in a big bag for cheep, and that's why I do it that way.
  4. Bless you for this!! I have become addicted to the BienaFoods BBQ roasted chickpeas they sell at WholeFoods but the bags are so expensive for their tiny size. I can't wait to try your recipe!!
