Cherry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

The warm weather is here and I am cranking out new ice cream recipes.  This cherry chocolate chip ice cream recipe is my latest one.  I just love cherries.  So when my husband brought a bunch home the other day, I knew I wanted to make cherry ice cream.  Of course I had to make mine cherry chocolate chip ice cream, because chocolate always makes everything better!  Am I right?  I love having an ice cream maker.  It is so worth the money when you think about the price of organic, dairy free and gluten free store bought ice cream.  You can make your own ice cream recipes for so much cheaper with just a handful of ingredients.

Cherry Chocolate Chip Ice Cream - My Whole Food Life

This cherry chocolate chip ice cream is dairy free, vegan, gluten free and even paleo friendly. It only takes 4 simple ingredients to make it.  I love 4 ingredient recipes.  I really think you could omit the sweetener all together in this if you happen to have some really sweet cherries.  You will need to pit the cherries, which can be a messy job unless you have a cherry pit remover. Love mine!

  1. I was wondering about making cherry ice cream recently. I found organic cherries at the grocery store (but we ate them too quickly). :) Have you ever melted your chocolate chips and swirled that into the ice cream? I like it MUCH better swirled in because the chips get too hard when frozen. We add melted chocolate to almost every batch of ice cream. :)
  2. You sure know how to make us crave something! Can you share with me which brand of ice cream maker you have - I would love to buy one this summer
  3. I wanted to learn home made chocolates wthout slab.but it should be look same like slab. So plll teach me Thank you very much.
  4. This looks absolutely amazing to these pregnant eyes ;) I had a tremendous cherry ice cream craving just last week. I caved for storebought but was really disappointed with the weird cherries in it. Homemade would be so much better
  5. Have you made this with frozen cherries before? Any success? The cherries here in the desert are still about $5 or $6 a pound so I was thinking of picking up a frozen bag. This sounds heavenly!!
  6. AhYUM. Cherry is one of my all-time favourite ice-cream flavours. I have a weird nostalgic comfort association with it because when I was a teenager I had a tooth operation which involved cutting out and replacing a bit of the bone in my mouth - was painless at the time but hurt like hell afterwards. So I spent most of the time in bed feeling sorry for myself, but secretly enjoying it. My mum was feeding me a diet that consisted almost exclusively of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream. XD
  7. Do you think this could be doubled and fit in the cuisinart ice cream maker? I feel like it probably could.... :) Looks YUMMY!
  8. I made this yesterday. Well...tried. The ingredients are delicious, but it would not freeze. I used my boyfriend's Cuisinart ice cream maker (never used one before), and I made sure I froze the bowl for 24 hours beforehand. I let it churn for ultimately about 45 minutes total, and parts of it chilled, but it didn't even make it to soft-serve consistency. I will try this again, likely with other fruits/flavors because it's so simple and tasty. However, I'd love to know what I did wrong. Any thoughts?.... Thanks!
    1. Really? I'm sorry, I have never had that happen before. :( I am sorry it never froze. I am not sure why? I have the Cuisinart as well and it works great.
    2. What brand of coconut milk did you use? It matters, they all thicken differently. I used once Native Forest Organic and my ice cream was more like a smoothie, never froze. Then I used Thai Kitchen and ice cream came out beautifully!
      1. I use Organic Thai coconut milk. I know Native Forest is BPA free, but I think the quality is terrible. So I go with Organic Thai. It's pretty much the only thing I buy in a can, so I am okay with it.
  9. Made this last night, the flavours were delicious! Loved it! I don't think I even need to add maple syrup, it was so sweet. I think my cherries were sweet, depends on that.:) Thank you.:) I will be trying your other ice cream recipes since now I have an ice cream maker.
  10. We made this last night and it was so delicious I had to get seconds... not sure that's a good thing. ;) We followed the poster's suggestion to melt and swirl in the chocolate and loved it! We used Arroy-D coconut milk from the 1 liter asceptic container, and... funny story, I had measured out a cup for my husband as I was in the middle of making dinner, and I poured the rest in a large Ball jar to store in the fridge. When he had it all mixed in the blender I tasted it and was initially disappointed because it tasted mostly of coconut and not the sweet cherries. Then I looked over and saw the cup I had measured out for him still sitting on the counter and the Ball jar was empty. Lol! Good thing we had more cherries. He quickly fixed the problem and it was re best thing I've ever tasted. Was a bit more on the icy/slushy side (possibly too much water from all the cherries?), that could have been due to the fact that our measurements were off. Will try again soon... like, today? ;) Thank you!
  11. This is in the ice cream maker as I type! Very excited to try. I was wondering if you've tried it with the 'lite' version of coconut milk and if no, why not? Thanks for your recipes! Gonna try banana bread later :-) Diane
    1. Hi Diane! I have not tried it with lite coconut milk, but I have made ice cream with almond milk. It's still good, but the texture is not creamy. It's more icy like a sorbet. I hope you enjoy the recipe! :)
