Did you indulge over the holidays?  I know I ate and drank my fair share!  That is what December is all about, right?  Well, New Year, New You! January is the perfect time to start over and make health a priority again.  Eating healthy does not mean you need to miss out on great food and drinks!

Here are some things I do to stay healthy and maintain balance.

  1. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables: Make sure to eat dark leafy greens with least 2 meals a day. I often in the form of green smoothies.  I also snack on other veggies and fruits throughout the day.
  2. Drink water: Try to set a goal of 8 (8-ounce) glasses per day.
  3. Exercise: This is so important.  I try to shoot for at least 30 minutes a day 5 times a week.  It can be something as little as parking further away from the stores, or just taking the dog for a long walk.  You can also find lots of free workout videos on You Tube you can do from home.
  4. Maintain a healthy relationship with food: You have to allow yourself healthy indulgences once and a while too.  It’s all about balance. REBBL is the perfect way to do that.  Their drinks taste good AND they are good for you!

All REBBL coconut milk elixirs are organic, fair trade, dairy free, gluten free and they contain super herbs.  REBBL’s Maca Cold-Brew is made from Fair Trade cold brewed coffee, coconut milk and the super herb maca root. 1. Tips that help me feel my best are eating a variety of veggies, drinking water, staying active and getting a good night's sleep! Sometimes easier said than done. ;)
  2. I get a 55 minute lunch break and I have been trying to spend 20 minutes of it walking instead of just quickly eating lunch and grading papers. I feel better when I do it--even if I don't get everything graded.
  3. These milk elixirs look delicious, I'd really like to try the Mocha mixed with the Chocolate. When I drink chocolate milk at home I always add a splash of cold brew, the flavors really compliment each other. My healthy tip is to never skip breakfast, your body needs the fuel after resting all night (another tip is to get a good amount of sleep). I always start my day with a bowl of old fashioned oats. Lately my favorite mix-ins have been diced apples, raisins, pecans, cinnamon, nutmeg and pure maple syrup. I also like banana with dried cranberries, walnuts, cardamom and honey. I agree with you totally on the relationship with food, balance is very important to me. I've found that a bit of dark chocolate (dark chocolate covered espresso beans are my kryptonite) after dinner helps stave off cravings and keeps my sweet tooth in check!
  4. Take it one day, one step at a time. Don't try to change everything at once - start making some desserts a little healthier, switch your flours and sugars up - and keep making those changes day by day!
  5. This recipe looks awesome. I'm excited to try it! I've been working hard to make changes as far as healthy eating goes, and I'm proud of how far I've come. Quinoa has been a part of the changes I've made, so I was excited to see it in your recipe. Here's one easy tip that has worked well for me: Cook a batch of quinoa on Sunday, and add it throughout the week to various recipes: chili, meatloaf, oatmeal, etc. Super easy way to sneak a healthy food into something you are already making :)
  6. I find that I'm more likely to eat a healthy breakfast if i make it the night before. I make about 3 days of overnight oats and just grab and go in the morning. Adding quinoa, hemp seeds, flax, and chia seeds kicks it up a notch!
  7. I drink warm lemon and ginger water every morning to start the day. Also drink at least one fresh juice a day and aim for 10000 steps!
  8. I would love to try this! My health tip is simple but not always easy. Make a weekly or monthly menu and try to make all (or as many as possible) of your meals at home with real whole food ingredients. I realize there will be times this challenging but you will never have to wonder what is in your food. Almost all of the freezer, microwave meals have crazy preservatives and a laundry list of ingredients. With some research and time, you'll be able to make this switch and you won't regret it!
