Detox Juice

My daughter was home on Friday with a fever and cold. I decided to make her a little get well juice of oranges, carrots and ginger. I swear she was feeling much better the next day. So on Saturday, we got our co-op basket and it was packed with fruit, so I decided to make her another juice. Both my girls drank this up.

This is full of good stuff. Ginger is anti-inflammatory, a pain fighter and can help with nausea. Oranges can protect against heart disease, purify blood and keep your bones and teeth strong. Carrots can improve vision, prevent cancer and are anti-aging. Honeydew melon’s are anti-aging and rich in B vitamins which can help with immunity. Pears contain a good amount of B vitamins as well. Lemons can also boost immunity. So I thought this juice would do her some good. If you are wondering what kind of juicer I have, you can see it here.

Detox Juice

2 pears (cored)
2 carrots
2 stalks celery
2 nectarines (pits removed)
1 lemon (remove the rind leaving most of the white on)
2 cups honeydew melon cubed
1 orange (remove rind leaving most of the white on)
1 inch piece ginger

Juice all the ingredients in the order they are listed. If you want to add some greens, feel free. I have not been able to get my daughter to drink the green juice yet. I will keep trying though! 🙂 Try to drink your juice within the first 12-24 hours to get the most benefits. If you go longer, some of the enzymes may be lost. I got about 25oz of juice out of this recipe. Enjoy!

    1. Thanks! Great idea! I will do that next time. I linked the juicer I have in the post. I love it and it's super easy to clean.
          1. I'd like to recommend the Omega VRT 350 or 400 juicers, they are slower but you get less oxidation and more quality juice and much less and drier pulp. There are many youtube videos out there with comparison. I bought one similar to yours and now I use the Omega and there is a big difference in the amount of juice I get.
          2. Thanks! I love them too! I have recently upgraded to the Breville Juice Crush and it's awesome as well.
      1. What about the Nutra bullet? My sister and I did a 21 day juice fast using only this machine. I haven't stopped using it since, the fast was started on 12/12.
          1. The NutriBullet is a juice extractor. It liquefies the entire fruit or vegetable so nothing is lost or wasted. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVJ2i-owUCY
  1. If you want your daughter to drink the green juice, add some blueberries. The blue will override the green. Kids will drink anything that's purple!
  2. Great idea, I've been doing the healthy detox thing for two weeks now and I feel 100% better. I don't have a juicer but rely on my Waring blender for most things these days. It works well and I enjoy the extra fiber that pulp gives you. Just make sure to wash your veggies well. :-)
  3. We all just got over a cold that started with a sore throat. This sounds like it would make great popsicles for when drinking a full glass of anything doesn't sound all that appetizing.
  4. Thank you for this juice recipe :) I have recently began juicing and am constantly looking for new things to juice! I am new to your blog and absolutely love it. I have made a change in my diet and have decided to eat healthful things :) It's fun!! I'm even getting my husband on board with the change slowly but surely. Your blog is an inspiration to me.
  5. Good morning Melissa! We are leaving for a family vacation this Friday, and as luck would have it, my 6 year old starting sneezing last night and now has a runny nose. I know that you are not a doctor, but I would appreciate any advice you might have. I found this juice recipe and thought that this might be a start...I only have a Vitamix but if I remember correctly you have mentioned before that I can just use a cheesecloth to strain. Do you think I should make her this juice several times this week? Also, do you have any tips that you can share with me that you use with your girls when they start to come down with something? Thanks in advance.
    1. You can make this is a vitamix and strain with a fine mesh strainer. I usually make a batch of this and get her to drink a little bit each day she is sick. Sometimes I also sneak in some greens too.
  6. Great recipe. I do one that has pineapple juice, lemons, honey, cayanne, garlic, and ginger. It's super strong and totally burns going down...but it works every time to knock a cold out before it takes hold. The downside is that I wouldnt give it to my kiddos because of how strong it is, lol. This looks like a great alternative.
  7. I'm forwarding this on to my daughter who has a Vitamixs and is a bit under the weather. I I will also save recipe for me too. Thanks for all your great tips. I am trying to convert myself over to a healthier lifestyle and your blog is a huge help!! :)
  8. I have been wanting to upgrade my juicer. How do you like the Breville crush? I'm on the fence between the breville and the omega vert. Any thoughts? The omega has lots of great reviews. Thanks!
    1. I love it! It juices very slow and does retain a bit of pulp. For those who like pulpy juice. Personally, I just take an extra step and strain mine, but overall I love the juicer. Very easy to clean and I love that it can juice wheat grass.
  9. I am buying a Nutri bullet my girlfriend loves hers and she but spinach, beets and all kinds of fruit and veg. in hers. I couldn't decide between the Nutri bullet or the Ninja. But the Nutri bullet was on sale this week so that is what I got.
    1. Yes it is possible. Check out this website. http://www.rebootwithjoe.com/ He is the guy behind Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. Great documentary too!
