At that time, it was brought to my attention that there are 2 types of cinnamon. Ceylon and Cassia cinnamon. Why does this matter? Well because one (ceylon) is the “true” cinnamon that contains all the health benefits and the other (cassia) is the “fake” cinnamon with less benefits and also potentially harmful side effects. It has to do with something called coumarin. Cassia cinnamon has much higher amounts of coumarin than ceylon cinnamon. When taken in large amounts, coumarin can be harmful to the liver. So if you are heavy handed with cinnamon, your best bet is to stick with ceylon cinnamon.
