Sweet and Tangy Orange Juice

Today is the first day of my first ever juice fast.  I am doing a juice every 2 hours and drinking water in between.  I just made the yummiest juice, so I had to share the recipe! In case you are wondering which kind of juicer I have, it’s a Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus 850-Watt Juice Extractor Super easy to use and clean!  On to the juice.

This was the first time I had juiced a sweet potato.  I have no idea why I waited so long!  Sweet potatoes make for some pretty yummy juice and actually go really well with beets.

Sweet and Tangy Orange Juice

1/2 large sweet potato
2 carrots
1 cucumber
4 stalks celery
1 bunch parsley
1 bunch rainbow chard
1 bunch red kale
1 lemon
handful of pineapple
1/2 inch piece of ginger peeled

Juice the ingredients in the order they are written. You can remove the peel of the lemon if you like, but you can leave it on as well. It contains a lot of nutrients. Personally, I use a knife and cut the peel carefully, leaving most of the white part intact. I have tried juicing the peel, but it was too bitter for me. Drink the juice right away. You can refrigerate it, but I have heard after 12 hours, some of the enzymes may be lost. I got about 20oz of juice. Enjoy!

    1. No, just a bunch you would grab in your hand. 3-4 stems and leaves. There are no exact measurements in juicing. Just eyeball it. :)
  1. Sounds great! I just got into juicing and I love it! I've created some of my own recipes but I am definitely going to try this one, thank you for sharing!
  2. I have a vitamin and throw fruits and veggies (frozen) usually with Greek yogurt and some water. The sweet potato is raw? Did u get a stomach ache afterwards. I have a sweet potato in the house I will consider throwing some in with my fruits. Also the beets. Do you cook them? I'd not do u peel them first and do they give that earthy dirt taste? ( I would clean it beforehand but beets can have a earthy smell)
    1. I juiced it raw. No stomachache. I have also juiced raw beets and I did not peel them. I cleaned them very well though. If the earthy taste bothers you, I would suggest peeling them.
  3. Sounds yummy! I use my vegetable peeler to remove the skin from lemons, limes, etc...It takes off just the skin and leaves the pith :)
  4. I happen to be allergic to ginger, do you have any ideas for a replacement..? Or can I just not add the ginger, will it make a big difference?
  5. I wonder how this would be in the VITAMIX? Easier clean-up, and probably more fiber. To get a toddler to ingest it is a bit more difficult! But the adults might be more game -- even as an interesting soup!
    1. I like the soup idea. Never thought of that one. I think you could blend it in the Vitamix and then pour into popsicle molds.
