Toasted Sesame Asian Dressing

Toasted Sesame Asian Dressing.  It’s so hard to find sesame Asian salad dressing without a lot of sugar and other additives.

That is why I make homemade salad dressing.  Homemade sesame Asian salad dressing gives you the freedom to add whatever you like, without all the added sugar.

Homemade Asian dressings are notorious for adding lots of sugar or high fructose corn syrup.  This homemade toasted sesame dressing is packed with flavor and without the sugar.

All you need is 3 ingredients and under 5 minutes!  The nutty flavor of the toasted sesame oil really makes this Asian Sesame Dressing stand out.

Salads are meant to be healthy.  Not loaded with sugar.  If you are wanting to make this gluten free, choose the tamari or bragg’s aminos.  Both are gluten free.  I hope you enjoy this Asian Sesame Dressing as much as we did!

  1. I love how simple it is! I'm always looking for homemade dressings yet they tend to have long ingredient lists so this is nice! I also love asian flavours without all the additives, can't wait to try it :) It sounds great for pot stickers, do you have a healthy pot stickers recipe up? I'd love to see that!
  2. Can't wait to try this! Can you clarify the "scant 1/4 cup" of sesame oil? The measurement is pretty precise, so I'm not sure if I should add less of it (or if I don't even know what scant means!)? Thanks!
  3. This is sooo yummy! The one processed food product I have not been able to get away from is Annie's Asian Sesame salad dressing. I added a little raw honey to the recipe and it is delish! No more Annie's for me. Thanks so much for the recipe.
    1. Thank you! I find the toasted sesame oil a Sprouts. Whole Foods and other health food stores should carry it as well. You may even be able to find it in the regular grocery stores. Look in the International section.
  4. Hi Melissa, Have you tried this recipe with untoasted sesame oil? I am about to buy, haven't tried it yet, but heard that it has a more subtle flavor than toasted sesame oil and better for you since it's raw. Just wonder how it would work. Thanks a lot!
  5. I'm not sure if I've had a dressing like this before so I made it. I thought I had toasted sesame seed oil, but it was just normal sesame seed oil. And I used lower sodium soy sauce. I dunno if that's an issue... Regardless, it's... good? I think? It's such a strange taste to me. I think I like it. It'll probably grow on me as I go through the batch. It's like every bite of salad surprises me. lol It's very strong, and I suspect a little can go a long way, so I'm going to have to play around with salad-to-dressing ratio. Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to experience this!
    1. The toasted sesame seed oil adds really nice flavor. So maybe that was the issue? In any case, glad you like it. :) A little goes a long way on a salad, so you can definitely use less dressing. :)
      1. I'm just not all that familiar with/used to the sesame flavor. I think that's ultimately the issue, if it could be considered that. :) It definitely has grown on me, and I'll have to try this again some day when I've got some toasted sesame seed oil! It'll be fun to compare.
  6. Hi, so glad i found this recipe. I love the Asian salad and as I am now following the Whole 30 Days program, I was looking for an alternate dressing that didn't have the sugar! Can't wait to try this out. By the way, I have black sesame seeds. I have not idea what they taste like however, and wondered if that would be a possibility. Probably not! Didnt' even know black sesame seeds existed until I came to Mumbai! Thanks again for sharing this!
  7. I made this dressing for a fennel and cabbage salad that I had made and the fragrance of toasted sesame seeds was wonderful. However, I did add a clove of garlic and about tablespoon of ginger as well. Thank you for posting the recipe!
