Blueberries and Cream Overnight OatsOvernight oats are my favorite breakfast.  They also go by the name oats in a jar.  Overnight oats are so easy and require no cooking!  You can make up a batch of 5 at a time and have easy breakfasts all week.

Overnight oats are also very popular on my blog.  When I was making my Cinnamon Roll Overnight Oats, I wanted to use that cashew cream again.

This time with fruit.  So that is when I thought do make these Blueberries and Cream Overnight Oats.

Prep Time 5 min Serves 1 jar = 1 serving     adjust servings

A simple, healthy breakfast that requires no cooking!



  1. Soak the cashews overnight or for at least 4 hours.
  2. Drain and rinse the cashews well.
  3. Add them to a blender with the maple syrup and vanilla. Blend until smooth.
  4. In a glass jar, combine all the ingredients except the blueberries.
  5. Cover and store in the fridge overnight.


Recipe Notes

A few things to note. If you are using steel cut oats, they will retain a slight crunch. If you like a smoother oatmeal, try using the rolled oats. I add the fruit in the morning. You could add it the night before, but if you plan on making a weeks worth of breakfasts, add the fruit right before you plan to eat it. I eat mine cold, but feel free to warm yours up in the morning if you wish. This recipe would also work great with strawberries, raspberries or blackberries.

  1. Just wondering- what's up with soaking the cashews? I've seen a few recipes that calls for them, but haven't tried it yet. Just curious!
  2. I see that you are using chia seeds in lots of your recipes. Can they be replaced with something else or omitted altogether? I live in Europe and don't know where I would purchase them.
    1. Hi, Bit late in the day but where in Europe are you? I live in France and they are readily available in Health Shops, but I am from the UK and again when I have been home they are in all health shops. So I would suggest you find a health shop or bio shop and you should be able to get them if you are still looking. Kind Regards Nikki
  3. So glad to see another overnight oats recipe! Was just thinking of this the other day and wishing for a new one! You read my mind! This one sounds delicious and will be making it soon. Where do you get raw cashews at a good price? I reach for overnight oats most every morning, without them, I don't know what to eat!! I depend on them being there! Thank you so much!!
    1. I love them too! A day without overnight oats is never the same. :) This may become my new fave for the spring! I get my cashews at Natural Grocers. If you buy the pieces instead of the whole cashews, they are a few dollars cheaper. :) I will also have a few overnight oats recipes in my cookbook. :)
  4. How much is a "slight crunch" with the steel cut oats? I love the chewiness of them cooked but I don't want to break a tooth out either!
    1. Not crunchy enough to break a tooth. They do get soft, just not as smooth as rolled oats. Also, they get softer the longer you leave them in the fridge, so by the 4th one it is totally soft. I always make mine with steel cut oats.
      1. Your recipes are tasty, but they pack a calorie punch. This one comes in at about 450. Have you thought of making "skinnier" versions?
  5. Instead of the cashews, could you use peanut butter? I always have that on hand! This sounds wonderful, and I just bought some chia seeds!! Yeah!
    1. The cashews give it a creamy texture. Do you have any yogurt? You could use that instead with good results. The peanut butter might taste good, but totally different. Almost like a PB&J.

  8. Is the half cup measurement meant for rolled or steel cut oats? Because steel cut oats have nearly twice the yield. Thank you!
  9. This looks yummy. Just wondering how many days ahead can you make? For example could you make a few days and let them sit for 3-4 days?
    1. I make them 5 at a time. However, if you make that many, I suggest putting the fruit on right before you eat it. I am not sure it would last 5 days soaked in the jar.
  10. Curious about how you define creamy. I couldn't get the soaked cashews more than slightly mushy in the blender after soaking them for more than 10 hours. I ended up just blending them with the milk. We'll see how it turns out in the morning!
      1. It turned out great! I'll see if I can turn the cashews into a cream inside the food processor instead of the blender. I think my blender is just too large to try and cream up such a small amount of cashews.
  11. What size of jar would be best for this? I feel like the jars I have at home are a bit on the small side and I don't want to make way too much! Looks great though :) Thanks for the idea!
    1. I use a 12 oz jar? At least that is what I think it is. I got my jars at Target. They come in a 4 pack and they are perfect for overnight oats.
  12. This sounds so good! Can the cashew cream be made up ahead in larger batches so I always have some on hand and don't have to wait for them to soak?
