Banana Chocolate Chip Donuts

Banana Chocolate Chip Donuts.  It’s been a while since I posted a sweet recipe.  So I am sharing these banana chocolate chip donuts.

If you don’t know already, I have a sweet tooth.  So in order to get my sweet fix, I need to create healthier alternatives.  This banana chocolate chip donut recipe is one way to curb a sweet tooth.

Banana Chocolate Chip Donuts

These Banana Donuts are:

  • vegan
  • oil free
  • naturally sweetened
  • simple to make

I may have gone a little over board with the chips.  It’s all good though.  These are healthy enough to eat for a breakfast and they should keep you satiated for quite sometime.

This recipe was supposed to be called Apple Donuts, but I realized I was short on applesauce so I had to improvise by adding banana.

I make a big batch of these so I have some to freeze, some to snack on and some for my father-in-law who loves to taste test these recipes. 🙂

      1. These sound delicious. Any suggestions on a substitute for the applesauce? I recently found out that I'm allergic to apples! :(
  1. Love your website! Can I substitute avocado oil or coconut oil for the walnut oil? If so, which would you recommend?
  2. We haven't done much baking since making the whole foods switch. Finally found a local health food store that sells spelt and these were first on the list. So good!! For any readers wondering about substitutions, we used coconut oil instead of walnut, and part honey/part maple syrup instead of the palm sugar. Delicious. Thanks for helping us out with these recipes!
  3. Just made these and they are awesome! Thanks for the recipe. I left out the banana though, my family's not big on things baked with banana in it. I used organic sucanut in place of the coconut sugar. I don't have the coconut sugar on hand. How do you think the nutritional value compares? This is what I use. http://www.amazon.com/Rapunzel-Organic-Whole-Cane-Sugar/dp/B0046HEPRM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1370908035&sr=8-2&keywords=organic+whole+cane+sugar
    1. I think it could work. I have had readers successfully make this gluten free. If you use coconut flour you may need to add a few eggs.
    1. White whole wheat is a whole grain flour despite it's name. It's a different type of wheat. You can use spelt as well. I have used both in this recipe and they both work great.
  4. I've never used coconut oil before, do I have to melt it first? Or do I use it in the solid form? Thanks in advance, I ordered a donut pan from Amazon & want to make these when it arrives!
    1. You do measure after melting. You can use another oil you have on hand though. Just not olive oil because it is only supposed to be used in cold dishes. I hope you enjoy the donut pan and the recipe! :)
  5. I just made these for my kids to bring with their lunches to school this week and they came out sooooo good! I used 1/3 cup coconut oil instead of 1/4 and split the dough in 1/2 and did raisins in one and choc. chips in the other and used my mini muffin pan since I don't have a donut pan yet. Everyone enjoyed them including my picky hubby! Thank u for another great recipe and for opening my eyes to a whole new way of cooking and baking!
  6. These look so amazing and I know I have to try them. I have tried several of your recipes now and each has been a great success. Thanks so much
  7. Hi! I like to try your recipe. It looks yummy. But, i like to know what is " T " ? Is that a tablespoon? 2 tablespoon milk? Thank you..
  8. Got up early this morning and made these! I don't have a donut pan so made them as muffins. They turned out great - soooo yummy!!
