Homemade Vegan Nutella (Gluten Free, Paleo)

Homemade Vegan Nutella.  You guys.  This stuff is seriously good.  It’s also a super cinch to make!

Homemade Vegan Nutella

I went a little crazy with the hazelnuts.  I just had some left over from my Vegan No Bake Nutella Bites and my Vegan Nutella Granola.  Store bought Nutella is loaded with unhealthy ingredients and it’s so easy to make it yourself.  Now vegans can enjoy it too!

This makes me so happy because I grew up eating Nutella.  My mom is German and we always had it in our house.  This little spread opens my mind to all kinds of yummy recipes to create in the future.  Stay tuned!

  1. Can you use a different kind of nut? I live in Tokyo and have a hard time coming by the hazelnuts, but we eat a lot of nutella so I need to get the healthy kind/home made kind in the family.
  2. I was wondering since you are grinding the hazelnuts into a powder if using leftover almond meal from making almond milk would "work". I know it would not be that nutella flavor but do you think it would make a chocolate almond butter? When I get to the store I am going to pick up some hazelnuts to try this but I just don't want to wait this looks awesome and I have some leftover almond meal :)
  3. I tried to make it and it came out a little grainy. Not smooth like Nutella. I have a small ninja food processor, would that matter? The taste was good but I couldnt convince my fam to make it a nutella substitute because it was not creamy. Any suggestions?
    1. It may have been the blender. I used a Vitamix and it came out very smooth. You could tell it was homemade, but it was not grainy at all. I'm sorry it came out that way for you.
      1. i have a vitamix and was going to ask if that would work. did you mix everything in the vitamix? how did you get it out at the bottom where the blades are? i will try the recipe this weekend. i'm from germany too :)
        1. I have made this in both the Vitamix and the food processor. I like making it in the Vitamix better. Much smoother. I just scraped the bottom every few minutes with a spoon to make sure it was all blended well.
  4. This truly does sound amazing and I'm especially interested in the recipe to make the ice cream but there's one small problem... I don't like hazelnuts:( Do you think almonds would work?
  5. I would love to try this recipe. However I don't own a food processor. Can I use hazelnut meal/flour instead?
    1. You can try with hazelnut meal. If you do, please report the results so I can tell others. Do you have a high powered blender? I have made it in the Vitamix before, but I added more milk to thin it out.
      1. I do have a high powered blender. I will try it both ways then and let you know how it turns out with the hazelnut meal. Thanks so much!
  6. I just wanted to know if the T you have by each ingredient is a table spoon or teaspoon sorry wasn't sure and want to make sure before I make this.. I'm excited to try..
  7. I am German and love my Nutella. I have bariatric surgery on Monday and looking at this there is something to look forward to a few months after surgery, thanks
  8. I subbed honey for maple syrup and rice milk (the only kind I had) for almond milk. I added a little more milk, because ny ninja blends better when it's thinner. It turned out smooth and delicious! Thank you!
  9. Which jar did you use on your Vitamix to grind the Hazelnuts? The regular smoothie jar or the dry grains container? I've made it with store-bought hazelnut butter so far and it is absolutely delicious!
    1. Hi Brenda! I get my hazelnuts on Amazon. http://tinyurl.com/kydhhw4 They are not in a shell, but they do have the outer skin on them. I have made this recipe with and without the skins. If you want to remove the skins, just roast the nuts for about 10 minutes in the oven at 375. When you pull them out, let them cool and the skins should come off easily if you rub the nuts between your hands.
  10. Thanks for the nutella receipe.....MMMMM good... Had to stop using the store bought kind a long time ago, because of the milk in the receipe..... If your Vitamix only came with one jar, it is the wet jar....You can purchase the dry type from Vitamix....They are expensive....I have a Vitamix and have both jars.....Unless you are going to grind your own grains I don't think the dry jar is neccessary. Love all your receipes.....
  11. Oh yum! I LOVE Nutella. I will definitely try this as I'm always on the lookout for anything with hazelnuts + chocolate, because that's the best. combo. ever. in my book :) Thank you for sharing this recipe, I will make it and it eat it guilt-free!
  12. Would love to try this, but I don't own a food processor. I do have an Omega 8006 masticating juicer which has attachments to make nut butters... wonder if I could put the hazelnuts in the Omega and make a butter out of it, then add that to the rest????
  13. When you pulverize the hazelnuts, about how much meal does it make? I have almond meal so I'm going to use that first, but I wanted to know how much dry meal to use. I'm assuming one cup, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks!
