Homemade Vegan Nutella (Gluten Free, Paleo)

Homemade Vegan Nutella.  You guys.  This stuff is seriously good.  It’s also a super cinch to make!

Homemade Vegan Nutella

I went a little crazy with the hazelnuts.  I just had some left over from my Vegan No Bake Nutella Bites and my Vegan Nutella Granola.  Store bought Nutella is loaded with unhealthy ingredients and it’s so easy to make it yourself.  Now vegans can enjoy it too!

This makes me so happy because I grew up eating Nutella.  My mom is German and we always had it in our house.  This little spread opens my mind to all kinds of yummy recipes to create in the future.  Stay tuned!

  1. My daughter fell in love with Nutella while in Europe this summer singing with a chorale group. (I have been telling her it was heavenly for ages...but she had to go to Europe to "listen".) But, you are right that the Nutella in the stores is full of stuff that's not good, so I'll be trying this. I imagine this can be food processed until really smooth if we tried. Correct? She'd prefer the smooth texture if I am to convert her from her European addiction.
          1. Melissa, Jill; I used about a teaspoon (no more than that) of vanilla extract and came out just pure perfection :) no hint of alcohol
    1. When I make it, I keep the food proccessor going until it makes the hazlenuts into a butter...then I slowly add the vanilla, almond milk, maple syrup, and coco...and it's just like real nutella consistency. HEAVEN!! :)
          1. Bed Bath and Beyond now carries the Vitamix and you can use their 20% coupon. They sell it online but if you go to the store they will order it for you, give you the 20% off and free shipping.
        1. how long do you blend for in the vitamix and what level? i have one and a food processor but with the vitamix i don't want to make it too runny.
          1. I have the Vitamix with the variable levels. I start out slow to grind the nuts first. Then I add the rest of the ingredients with a small amount of milk. Then I add a little more milk until I get a consistency I like.
        2. How do you get every drop back out of your Vitamix? I hate making thick things in mine as I always feel like I lose a tablespoon of the recipe!
  2. This looks delicious. I just might have to try it. We have a nut allergies but I do enjoy Nutella (when I used to eat it).
    1. Thanks! It really does taste similar to Nutella. Just a bit less sweet since I only used a small amount of sweetener. :)
  3. And if we process the hazelnuts until they become a paste (like we do with peanut butter) the texture would be almos the same too! Cool! I'll try this!
  4. I love your blog. I found you via Facebook. Thank you for sharing your recipes with us. I made this yesterday using organic 1% milk. I got it to the consistency of a think pudding. It turned out phenomenal! Not as sweet, but still very tasty.

      1. What about golden syrup? Would that work? By the way I recently found your blog and it's so great, I loved your german chocolate bites, have made them so many time!!
      2. I've used honey and it turns out great! I usually add Stevia to this as well...we like our nutella sweeter...but we don't need the extra sugar.
          1. what brand of stevia did you find that did not have the aftertaste? was there really no aftertaste?! I avoid stevia due to this reason :(
  6. My son is going to be so excited! Nutella was the hardest thing for him and all of us really to give up when we started eating no GMO's! Thank you! I cannot wait to get the ingredients and try this out. :)
    1. You are very welcome! I have some no bake nutella bites on the blog as well. Here is the link to those. https://mywholefoodlife.com/2013/02/24/healthier-vegan-nutella-bites/
  7. I was thrown off by the vegan title when there is milk in there but glad the other options will work. So very excited and appreciate the recipe!
  8. This looks amazing! I missed Nutella while I was vegan, but I never did find a good substitute. I stuck with peanut butter on my toast instead, but this sounds like the perfect vegan version!
  9. My family has just started clean eating about a month ago. My seven and four yr old boys have missed Nutella something awful!! We are ALL thrilled that u shared this recipe so we can still enjoy this heavenly treat! Thank u so much for being so generous with your recipes:)
  10. Nutella is something my children love like if they could have it every day they would. I love your homemade recipe and can't wait to make it. I'm super excited because I have all the ingredients! Will let you know how it goes :)
    1. I hope you like it! Remember you can add more milk if you want it a little runnier. I made mine kinda thick. :)
    1. I am not familiar with a Nutribullet. If you thin it out, it may work? I imagine a Nutribullet is kind of like a magic bullet? I used to have one of those, but it had a hard time with recipes like this.
    1. I used cocoa powder, but cacao may work as well. I used a brand from Sprout's. The only ingredient in it is cocoa powder.
