Pear and Apple Quinoa

For those of you that have young children, you are very familiar with the baby food in squeeze pouches. Since my daughters struggled with eating, we went through a lot of them. They travel really well and it’s easy for kids to eat. However, they add up in price pretty fast and you are left with trash to throw away. I have been looking for a refillable squeeze pouch for a while now. Then I found out about a company called Little Green Pouch. They make easy to use refillable feeding pouches.

Olive Little Green Pouch

These little green pouches are:

  • BPA free, PCV free and phthalate-free
  • Freezable
  • Fill-able
  • Dishwasher safe
  • Squeezable (perfect for little hands)

Little Green Pouch is going to give away a large starter kit ($49 value) to one lucky reader. Contest is open to US and Canada residents only. Giveaway will end on November 27 at 12:00am CST.  Winner will be notified via email.  Good luck!

Little Green Pouch Giveaway

I knew when I first got the samples that I wanted to make a recipe to use in them. So I did a twist on my Crock Pot Applesauce.

This is a healthy recipe perfect for babies on soft solids as well as toddlers. My husband and I even enjoyed it and put in in our overnight oats. Great flavors!

Pear and Apple Quinoa

Prep Time 30 min Cook Time 4 hr

A baby food you would be happy to serve to your child and eat yourself.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Throw all the ingredients except the quinoa in the  crock pot .
  2. Cook on high for about 3-4 hours. Once the apples and pears are soft and somewhat broken down, turn off the crock pot and let cool.
  3. Once cooled, add the quinoa and blend with an  immersion blender . If you don’t have an immersion blender , you can transfer mixture to a  blender and blend well.

Recipe Notes

If you decide to use a blender, you may need to blend the mixture in 2 batches. It can be refrigerated for a few weeks and frozen for even longer. Enjoy!

Apple Spiced Refrigerator Jam

You need to try this Apple Spiced Refrigerator Jam.  Everyone likes a little jam once and awhile.  Most store bought jams contain too much processed sugar.

Did you know you can easily make your own jam recipe without processed sugar, pectin or canning?  I already have Blueberry Chia Jam on the blog.

Since it’s almost fall, I thought I would make one that incorporated those flavors.  This apple spiced jam recipe came out great.

Apple Spiced Refrigerator Jam Watermark

This is it and it couldn’t be any easier!  I used chia seeds to help gel up the spread.  This will literally take minutes to make.  Spread it on toast, swirl it in yogurt, or even use it as a pancake topping!  It would be great in overnight oats as well.  Yum!

Apple Spiced Refrigerator Jam

Prep Time 10 min Serves 8 oz.     adjust servings

Ingredients

  • 2 apples peeled and cored (I saved the peels because my daughter likes to snack on them. Any apples will do. I used gala.)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 2 T maple syrup (This is optional. Taste the mixture and if it's not sweet enough, add the syrup.)
  • 2-3 T chia seeds

Instructions

  1. In the food processor , blend up the apples.
  2. Then add in the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  3. Put the jam in a covered container and set it in the fridge to set up. Takes about 30 minutes to an hour.

This made 8 oz of jam. I store mine in mason jars , but you can use any container. It should last a few weeks in the fridge and you can also freeze it for longer storage. Enjoy!

Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats

Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats.  Fall is just around the corner.  That makes me think of warm smells like cinnamon and nutmeg.

I just love it!  This recipe is like having the fall flavors all wrapped up in one yummy breakfast!  If you have already made my Almond Butter Overnight Oats, you know that this recipe is super easy!

This oatmeal has a little crunch in the morning from the steel cut oats.  If you like more of a smoother oatmeal, then rolled oats may be better for you to use.

I make up a whole bunch of these and then just grab and go during the week.  I added no sugar to mine at all, but if you like your oatmeal a bit sweeter, I will put an option in the ingredients.

Check out this video for a pumpkin version of overnight oats.  For more videos, you can subscribe to my You Tube Channel.

Apple Pie Fruit Leathers

My kids love fruit leathers, but they are so expensive at the store.  So now I make my own.  It’s so easy and you can add in whatever fruits and spices you like.  I have peach fruit leathers on my blog already, and now I can add these to the list.

The house smells amazing when these are cooking, kind of like when I make my crock pot applesauce.  The best part is that you probably already have all the ingredients in your own cabinets!  I used applesauce to make mine, but you can most certainly use real apples and puree them first.  Think about it though.  When your store has a sale on applesauce, you can stock up and make these.  It would save a lot of money and make your kids happy too. I used a dehydrator to make mine, but you can certainly try this in the oven as well.  You just need to keep an eye one them.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. If using an oven, preheat to the lowest setting or 135.
  2. Put all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.
  3. Line your baking sheets with parchment and spread the mixture out evenly.
  4. Bake for about 4-6 hours, depending on how low the temp your oven will go.
  5. If you are using a dehydrator , line the trays with parchment as well.  You can use the dehydrator sheets as well, but I think parchment is much cheaper and works great.
  6. I baked mine in the dehydrator at 135 for about 6-7 hours.
  7. Once it feels tacky, it’s pretty much done.  I got about 20 fruit leathers out of my batch.  Enjoy!

Apple Cinnamon Waffles (Vegan)

Apple Cinnamon Waffles. Every weekend we try to make waffles.  You can never have too many healthy waffle recipes.   Today we made healthy apple waffles with lots of cinnamon!

We usually make Blueberry Oatmeal Waffles or Strawberry Banana Waffles.  The last couple months, my daughter had soccer early in the morning, so we had to rush out quickly with no time to make waffles.

This past weekend, we were finally able to again.  My daughter requested apple cinnamon waffles, so here you go.

You can use all white whole wheat flour if you want.  I just like to mix it up with some oat flour.  This recipe is super easy and could probably be easily converted into pancakes as well.

It will make your house smell amazing too!  I always make a big batch and then freeze some.  Then you can easily pull one out and toast it on those busy mornings!

Apple Pie Larabars (Vegan and Gluten Free)

Apple Pie Larabars.  It’s been a while since I have posted a larabar recipe.  I had several people request the apple pie larabar flavor, so here you go.  I hope you enjoy these homemade apple larabars.

For more larabar recipes you can check out this post.

My husband really enjoyed these.  I was not a huge fan myself.  Mostly because I am obsessed with the Coconut Cream Larabars.

That just means there will be more for him and my daughter to share. 🙂  These are just as easy to make as all the others.  I cut  mine in squares, but you can do bars or roll them into balls as well.

These homemade larabars travel great too.  Perfect for on the go.  I always have some in my purse just in case.
