Chocolate Almond Banana Bites (Vegan)

Chocolate Almond Banana Bites.  These chocolate almond frozen banana bites are so good! I wanted to incorporate the flavors of my 5 minute banana ice cream, which I seem to make at least a few times a week.

These frozen chocolate treats are so healthy and it feels like you are cheating!  No ice cream maker necessary!

This recipe actually won a contest on The Today Show.

Chocolate Almond Banana Bites

These chocolate almond banana bites contain no added sugars, except for the small amount of sugar in the dark chocolate.   They are a great banana chocolate dessert to keep in your freezer when you have that sweet craving.

I used standard sized muffin cups to make mine, but you can also use mini cups and make a larger, bite-size batch.

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the banana, vanilla and almond butter.
  2. Mash it together well and set aside.
  3. In a saucepan, , melt the chocolate and almond milk on medium heat, stirring constantly.
  4. Once you get a smooth chocolate, add a small amount to the bottom of a lined muffin tin.
  5. I used silicone muffin liners to make removing the chocolate easier when it’s time to eat.
  6. Once you have placed chocolate at the bottom on each cup, stick it in the freezer to firm up. About 10 minutes.
  7. Once the chocolate is firm, add in the banana filling and then cover the top with more chocolate.
  8. Repeat these steps until all are done.

  1. Oh my! These look fantastic! Bananas, AB and Chocolate are 3 of my favourite foods and I eat them together in all kinds of combinations but this idea is definitely new to me! I love keeping sweet treats on hand in the freezer too :)
  2. These look wonderful....I wonder about subbing PB 2 mix for the almond butter and making "reese's" cups? I've tried many of your recipes and we love them! And I sooo with you used the link to Ziplist...I love having access to recipes on my phone so I can run to the store on my way home from work (because usually don't plan too far ahead!)
    1. I'm not sure if you could use PB2. You can certainly try. I tried installing ziplist and it slowed down my site way too much. I really wish I could use it too and will try again in the future after some updates are done.
  3. I love this idea since I've been making your 5 minute banana ice cream for a while and adding chocolate chips. This way I can keep some stocked up for grab and eat moments! Can I use frozen bananas n this just like the ice cream recipe?
  4. I'm ordering some of those silicone muffin cups but in the meantime I really want to make this treat today. Can I use paper liners in the muffin tin or should I just use the muffin tin with some coconut oil in the bottom? These look amazing!
    1. Thank you! I would try a regular muffin tin that is slightly greased. You may need to stick a butter knife in carefully to remove them. I am afraid it may stick to the paper liners.
    1. You can, but keep in mind that since this is raw, you will still be able to taste the alcohol in the extract. If you are okay with that, feel free to use extract. Maybe 1/2 tsp?
  5. I tried these tonight. I figured they'd be a hit since I'm so in love with your banana ice cream. I also love making chocolate covered frozen bananas. Even though I love dark chocolate I found it a little bitter when I made this. I think next time I'll add a little coconut sugar to the dark chocolate mix or use semi-sweet chocolate chips. It is a good idea though. Also I used paper muffin liners and it was no problem taking it off.
    1. Good to know about the paper liners. I always wondered if they would work. Sorry they were not sweet enough for you. Maybe semi sweet chips would be a good idea. :)

  6. I'm making these for a second time today! My husband I love them, they are the perfect after dinner treat. I only had paper liners and they worked fine, but I'm going to buy silicone ones since I know I will be making these. I did have to add honey to the chocolate because it was a little bitter for my taste, but that's ok because we have a ton of honey from our hives! Thanks for a great recipe!
  7. Hi! Do these need to stay in the freezer and only get out when ready to eat? How long do you thnk they'll keep in freezer?
    1. I tried keeping them in the fridge and the banana mixture got too soft. So they need to stay in the freezer. I think they should keep for a couple weeks.
  8. I made these and as soon as I popped them out the bottom started to melt. I used silicone cups but was I supposed to spray them with oil?
    1. You shouldn't need to spray them with oil. They do melt quickly and that's why I say they are best eaten right out of the freezer.
  9. I was looking for something vegan that I could use to swap out for my usual mini Blizzard on the days I run long - these look perfect! Making them now and I can't wait to try them!
