Orange Cream Truffles

These Orange Cream Truffles are super good!  The other day, a reader of mine asked if I had any chocolate recipes with orange cream.  I didn’t at the time, but I loved the sound of a dessert like that.  That is how these orange cream truffles were born.  If you like my strawberry creme truffles, then you will love these orange cream truffles!  It’s like a bite sized creamsicle covered in chocolate.  How yummy is that?  I think these truffles would be great without the chocolate too.

Orange Truffles - My Whole Food Life

These orange cream truffles are super easy to make.  All you need is 6 simple ingredients!  These truffles are vegan, gluten free and paleo.  They would be a great dessert to take to any party.  No one would have any idea they were made a little healthier.  I honestly think if you used super sweet oranges, you could eliminate the maple syrup all together.  You could also use my 3 ingredient chocolate recipe instead of chocolate chips!

    Instructions

    1. In a food processor , combine the filling ingredients and blend well. You want to try and get all the orange chunks out. It may take a couple minutes.
    2. Once everything is combined, place the mixture in the freezer for about 10 minutes. It needs to slightly firm up so it can be scooped into balls.
    3. Once the mixture is firm, form the balls. I used a cookie scoop to form mine.
    4. Place balls on a lined baking sheet and stick in the freezer for at least 30 minutes.
    5. Using a double boiler method, melt the chocolate chips and almond milk together. Stir almost constantly until it's smooth.
    6. Using 2 forks, roll each orange ball into the chocolate and coat it completely. Place the balls back into the lined baking sheet. Once all the balls are coated in chocolate, stick them back in the freezer for an hour.

    1. What can you use in place of coconut butter if you're not worried about being vegan or paleo or anything? Hmm...as I type...I'm wondering...could you use a cup of pureed avocado? These look quite good!
    2. Forgive me if this shows up twice - my original comment has disappeared. I had asked if there was a substitute for coconut butter. I wondered if pureed avocado would work. Thanks again.
      1. I think you might be able to use plain yogurt, but you will probably need to freeze it a little longer to firm up.
    3. Thank you for such an informative and fun website. For a strict vegetarian of 16 years and a 95% vegan who does not like fruits or vegetables and hates to cook, I am actually look forward to trying many of your recipes as soon as I buy some ingredients I will need. I could not find a contact section on your site, so forgive me if this is not the proper place to write this or if you have already written about this topic. I just learned about it recently and was very upset by it. It is the fact that all almonds sold in the USA are either heat treated (which kills the nutrients in the nuts) or treated with PPO (Propylene Oxide Gas), a known carcinogen. I had a 5 pound bag of "raw and natural" Kirkland brand almonds from Costco in my freezer (BTW, almonds should not be kept in the freezer but in the refrigerator) that I had to get rid of because I called Costco and they confirmed that their almonds are in fact pasturized with PPO. I found this website/company and really learned a lot. They explain in detail about this subject and answer other questions about almonds. http://www.wholesale-almonds.com/ Like other people have written, it is very overwhelming and frustrating to try and eat clean with all the bad, unhealthy stuff out there. But your website is definitely a huge help. Thank you again for all the hard work and care you put into your website so we can all learn to eat better, step by step. Have a great day!
    4. Hello. Thanks for the great recipes. I couldn't find coconut butter, just coconut oil and the taste qas awful :(. Any substitute you can suggest please? Thanks a lot
      1. You can make your own coconut butter from shredded coconut. https://mywholefoodlife.com/2013/07/08/homemade-coconut-butter/
    5. Looks so yummy! Im just wondering if they might melt if I put them on the table to sit at my christmas party as it is summer here.
      1. I had a reader try that and it was a major fail. :( You may be able to use cream cheese, but you would need to add extra sugar to balance out the tang of the cream cheese.
