5 Minute Maca Energy Bites

Have you tried maca root powder yet?  Maca root is a tuber, kind of like a potato.  It is very well known as a natural energy booster.  It can also help with hormonal issues such as menopause and fertility.  Maca is rich in B vitamins as well.  It can be pricey, but I promise that a little goes a long way, so the bag will last a long time.  Kind of like chia seeds.  You may even be able to buy maca powder out of the bulk bins at Whole Foods.  I love putting maca powder in my Chocolate Almond Butter Overnight Oats because it adds a malty flavor that goes well with the chocolate.   These Maca Energy Bites will not only give you a natural energy boost, but also a pretty good protein and fiber boost as well.  If you enjoy my Maca Energy Bars, you will love these!

If you want to make these nut free, you can use rolled oats instead of pistachios. These balls should last for a couple weeks in the fridge. You can also freeze them.

  1. I love, love, love maca. I have a recipe for bliss balls that has cacao, cacao nibs, and maca in it. Maca goes great with chocolate! These look delicious. You made me realize that I don't use pistachios enough!
  2. I'm a big maca fan too. I love the taste but it's pretty nice to get the nutritional benefits too :) I know some people react badly too it though. Glad that's not me! Thanks for the idea of trying it in overnight oats.
    1. You are so welcome! This is the overnight oats recipe I use it in. https://mywholefoodlife.com/2013/08/10/almond-butter-chocolate-overnight-oats/ My husband is one of those people who get a bad reaction. He threw up for hours after he ate it. More for me!
  3. Where can I get maca powder? And what should I be looking for when I buy it? I have looked and looked for this. thanks.....
    1. I linked the post to Amazon so you can buy it. If you want to buy it at the store, you can find it at most health food stores in the raw food section. Sometimes I have seen it in the baking section as well.
  4. I wish wish wish I had a food processor. I can't make half of your yummy recipes because my Blendtec will not process dates for some reason. I have even tried soaking them for a long time before. I make 5 of your bar and bite recipes and put hem in the freezer for the upcoming week. My husband and I use hem as pre workout and post workout snacks. I try to do a new recipe each week to try out but am running out of recipes because my blender doesn't do dates. I keep telling my hubs we need a food processor but we will have to save up for one. When we do I am excited to try these! My hubby's favorite no bake bar of yours so far is he maca bars. I think they are mine too!!
    1. Yay! Could you cut up the dates with a knife before you put them in the Blendtec? That might help. If I happen to see a good deal on a food processor, I will let you know. ;)
    2. I purchased a mini food processor at Kohls and it wasn't that pricey. It is a mini but I bought it for recipes like this and it works awesome. Good luck!
  5. Looks delicious, I've definitely got to try this recipe. I love maca powder and i'm using it for more that a year now in my daily diet, and i feel great. I didn't expect to feel so much better, when i decided to try maca. Absolutely great super food!
  6. OMG Yum Gimme right now! Now that I have 2lb of mava (http://awesomeveganblog.com/2014/03/31/maca-magic/) I'm going to go make these right now!! Thanks :)
  7. Wow, I knew if I looked long enough someone would post a recipe using maca and healthy ingredients. I prefer red maca powder, which I buy in bulk online, but I'm getting tired of whole oat groats as the only acceptable recipe. I made this recipe with figs too and cilantro and ground flax seeds - though not all together. It was wonderful. I think next I'll try it with tapioca pearls. I have a new favorite! Thank you!!
    1. So glad you liked them! I also have a recipe for maca energy bars if you ever want to try it. https://mywholefoodlife.com/2013/09/17/maca-energy-bars/
  8. Thanks a ton for great recipe. will processor do u use? I want to start making homemade bars and balls and sell them around.. which processor would recommend? thank you
  9. Do you think these would be good if I added coconut oil instead of water? I'm always trying to get more of it in my diet....
  10. These look great for breakfast on the go! Any substitute for the dates? They're hard to find in this side of the globe, haha. Greetings from Argentina :)
