Homemade Vegan Nutella (Gluten Free, Paleo)

Homemade Vegan Nutella.  You guys.  This stuff is seriously good.  It’s also a super cinch to make!

Homemade Vegan Nutella

I went a little crazy with the hazelnuts.  I just had some left over from my Vegan No Bake Nutella Bites and my Vegan Nutella Granola.  Store bought Nutella is loaded with unhealthy ingredients and it’s so easy to make it yourself.  Now vegans can enjoy it too!

This makes me so happy because I grew up eating Nutella.  My mom is German and we always had it in our house.  This little spread opens my mind to all kinds of yummy recipes to create in the future.  Stay tuned!

  1. As an Italian/Canadian I was brought up with Nutella. It was a staple in our cupboard. Back then it was considered a healthier alternative to butter. However, with that said, we are way more aware of what is in Nutella today and now that I am a Mom I won't feed it to my children. Thank you for this recipe because knowing what is in my food before I eat it or more importantly serve it to my children is one of my top priorities!
  2. Love your site and every recipe I have tried is wonderful, so look forward to this one too. :) You mentioned in a comment above you will be trying a brand of stevia that doesn't have an aftertaste. If you do, will you please share with us? I have tried several brands of stevia and just can't find one that doesn't taste yucky to me. Thank you!
    1. This is the only brand I found that doesn't contain natural flavors. I didn't notice an after taste, but overnight oats is the only thing I have tried it in. http://tinyurl.com/numz29g
  3. I just tried this for the first time today - and then I read the comments for how to get a smoother consistency! I'll give it another try as the texture of today's batch is a little too "rustic" for us. Maybe part of the problem is my inexpensive Cuisinart food processor, too. Any recommendations in this area would be welcome!
    1. Yes, when I make it in the Cuisinart food processor, it does have a bit of a gritty texture. I now make it in my Vitamix and it comes out perfectly smooth! I grind the nuts by themselves first and then add in the rest of the ingredients. So if you have a high powdered blender, try that next time. :) Works great! I hope you enjoyed the taste. :)
      1. Yeah, mine came out kind of gritty and thick too in my food processor, but it still tastes good. I can roll it in balls and it sort of became a no-bake cookie type of thing. Actually, I think this stuff is just begging to be rolled into balls and soaked in dark rum for the holidays to make rum balls. Sure beats my family's recipe that involves ground up Nilla wafers and corn syrup!
        1. Oh yum idea on the run balls! I have been making it in the blender ever since and no grit. If you have a blender, try it that way sometime.
  4. Mine turned out almost as if I were making a date paste? Any way I can fix it? I added a lot more milk and it just kept turning into a thicker paste.
    1. Really? I'm sorry it came out that way. Did you use a food processor or blender? I have used both and found that the blender works better. I have a Vitamix. IT comes out much more like actual Nutella that way.
      1. Okay I did use a processor. I'll try a blender. Do you know what I can do to fix it? Add more cocoa and milk or would that ruin it? I made it to use in your overnight oats recipe.
  5. Melissa, this "Nutella" is extraordinaire!!! So, I decided to make it in order to make the coconut Nutella cups. That was 5 days ago and the spread seems to be going down at a rapid speed!!!:) I don't know that I will have enough to use for the cups, but it is just soooo delicious on it's own! Thank you for your sharing your recipes :) I have family members that will find jars with this yummy spread in their Christmas stockings!
    1. Awesome Claudita! I am so happy you like it! The cups are good too. You may just have to make a second batch for those. ;)
  6. What a delicious and versatile recipe. I've made this twice in my sm 4 C Fd processor and I varied the method each time. The first time came out chunkier because I misread the instructions and mixed everything at once, but it was surprisingly delicious! The second time I added more homemade almond milk (your recipe of course) and more cocoa powder. This time it was more viscous and I thought I ruined it but OMG! It reminded me of chocolate ganache..delicious on apples and bananas. Thanks for the recipe
  7. I just got done making this and OMG! I cannot believe how good it turned out.. I just purchased a vitamix 6000 and it blended mixture into more of a chocolate mousse/pudding consistency. This is not a bad thing...It is fantastic. Actually, in my fridge I have your overnight oats, PB rice crispy treats and blueberry chia jam..All made with Vitamix--definitely worth the investment. So thankful for your not-overly complicated, delicious & healthy recipes. Great work! Jen
    1. Lately I have been using Nativas Naturals Cacao powder, but it is slightly bitter. If you use cocoa powder, just look for a brand that only has cocoa powder as an ingredient. Some brands mix it with processed sugar.
  8. I'm wondering if I made a hazelnut butter and added it that way? Nutella is so smooth, my girls might freak out on the texture..
